About our School
St Mary Magdalen’s is highly valued in the local community as a school that offers an excellent education in a welcoming and safe learning environment. It is a Catholic school with a proud history of responding to the needs of families in the local area.

The school first opened in 1954 using the back of the original Church building, now known as the Vin Creed Centre. In 1955 a brick school was built and staffed by the Presentation Sisters and lay teachers. We have always been a part of a vibrant parish community and we value the generosity of the parishioners who have supported the school for more than sixty years.
The Jordanville/Chadstone area continues to be a diverse and multi-cultural community. This is a great asset as students learn the values of diversity and respect for all people. It is also our greatest challenge: to assist families to assimilate into Australian life and to be proficient in oral and written English. Many of our students speak two or three languages.
St Mary Magdalen's is a welcoming, inclusive community, where children and families experience a sense of belonging in a caring environment. We are committed to continuous school improvement. This improvement is evidenced in improved learning outcomes for students.
Our school has high standards for all children and provides exemplary teaching and additional support to ensure all children achieve success. Our curriculum is student centred, comprehensive and engaging. As a primary school we pride ourselves on ensuring that children develop a love for learning and a solid foundation for secondary schooling.

St. Mary Magdalen’s School is situated in Chadstone, surrounded by the suburbs of Ashwood, East Malvern, Oakleigh and Mount Waverley. The school is safely located away from main roads, yet is very close to the Monash Freeway and Chadstone Shopping Centre. The area is well serviced by transport, health services and community facilities.
The school takes advantage of the great parks and sporting venues in the local area. We regularly use Batesford Oval for activities as it is only a short walk from the school.
Students from St Mary Magdalen's have the opportunity to continue in Catholic Education through Salesian College (boys), Avila College (girls), Sacred Heart College (girls), Emmaus College (co-ed). We are zoned for Ashwood and Mt Waverley Secondary Colleges.
