Nurturing creative minds
The Visual Arts program at St Mary Magdalen’s aims to foster problem solving, critical thinking, risk taking, responsibility and an appreciation for art.
Students learn through a program that is designed in an enjoyable and stimulating environment. All students experience activities that help develop confidence, creativity, passion, imagination and individuality.
A variety of mediums are used throughout the program, such as colour, line, texture, shape, and space, which supports students in engaging in art, with the possibility of continuing their interest outside of the classroom.
Students P- 6 engage in a weekly 50minute lesson where they are encouraged to develop an understanding of the various artform including
- Model Making
- Art Appreciation
Students learn to communicate through their art, respond to the artworks of others and gain appreciation from well known artists. Where appropriate the activities provide cross curricular links and are integrated with other curriculum areas.
BI-ANNUAL ART SHOW
The artworks produced by our talented students are celebrated at our bi-annual art show and throughout each year are displayed around the school as well as on social media providing the opportunity for students to share their artworks with family and the wider community.
